What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry encompasses not only the health of the teeth but also their aesthetic value. Various products and procedures exist within cosmetic dentistry with the goal of improving both the well-being and visual beauty of the teeth, giving the individual a higher level of self-confidence.
Why Choose Cosmetic Dentistry?
Your smile is one of the first features people notice when they meet you. Cosmetic dentistry is designed to help you feel more confident about your appearance and restore health to your mouth. In addition, cosmetic dentistry can provide patients with teeth that are evenly spaced, attractively shaped, white and healthy.
Types of Cosmetic Procedures
There are numerous options available to improve the overall health and appearance of the teeth and smile. During a consultation with one of our dentists, patients can decide which option best suits their specific needs and will most effectively meet their expectations. At Kalil & Kress Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, our dentists provide the following cosmetic services:
Teeth whitening is a non-invasive way to brighten your smile. The whitening process works by destroying the particles that cause teeth staining. Once the stains are broken down the enamel is restored to a natural white color. Our patients can receive in-office treatment, bring home custom trays, or do a combination of both for best results.
Porcelain veneers are thin shells that are bonded over enamel to enhance the appearance of teeth. Veneers create the outward appearance of even and white teeth and will not yellow over time. Patients will be able to receive custom-made veneers in two visits at Kalil & Kress Family and Cosmetic Dentistry.

Tooth-colored fillings, also known as composite fillings, can restore teeth while preserving the natural structure of the tooth. The composite resin is placed into the tooth in layers and hardened with a UV light. Patients commonly receive composite fillings to replace metal fillings and provide a metal-free smile.
Dental implants are one of the most commonly used and longest-lasting replacement options for missing teeth. Implants replace the tooth root which prevents teeth from shifting into the now open space. In addition, implants can provide a base for a custom crown.
Dentures are used to replace significant tooth loss and assist patients in regaining oral function. At Kalil & Kress Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer full dentures, partial dentures, or implant-supported dentures. After placement, patients will have a complete smile again and with proper care can maintain their results for years to come.
Invisalign® are clear alternatives to traditional braces. These aligner trays can straighten teeth over time. Patients can visit our office for a unique treatment plan with custom Invisalign trays. Invisalign is less painful than metal braces and can provide ideal results in 6 to 18 months.
Cosmetic bonding can improve the appearance of broken, chipped, cracked, or stained teeth. During the procedure, our staff will apply a composite resin to the teeth in order to improve their appearance. As a result, patients have corrected cosmetic problems providing a white, even, and improved smile.
Gum contouring is a cosmetic procedure that changes the gum line using a laser or cutting tool. Patients that have ‘gummy’ smiles often want to remove some of the gums and expose more of their tooth enamel. Typically, gum contouring can be completed in one visit and the gums heal fairly quickly.
Problems Cosmetic Dentistry Can Correct
- Minor chips along the edges of teeth
- Surface cracks that make the enamel look broken
- Gaps between teeth
- Stained enamel or dark dentin (the layer underneath the enamel)
- Teeth that look too short or stubby
- Teeth that are irregularly shaped
- Metal amalgam fillings that show when you smile
- Gum tissue that is uneven or that covers up too much of your teeth
- Missing teeth (this is where cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry overlap)
